Maine, Stephen King's house, VHS Nostalgia

I took an excursion to Maine to visit my parents. They're hours and hours into the deep bowels of "The Pinetree State." I felt like riding in comfort so I rented an Audi A4 because I know the seats are easy to adjust. Smooth ride, nice to have a light that tells me if someone's in my blindspot. There were lots of laughs listening to Gilbert Gottfried's Amazing Colossal podcast. I took the Tappanzee through New York, it's a more scenic route than I-95.
My parents are so far up the coast you can throw a stone and hit Nova Scotia. The scenery is magestic, the wildlife is like a Disney movie. They took me around to Bar Harbor, Acadia National Park. Unfortunately the road to the "Thunderhole" was closed but there will be a next time. Lots of cool antique shops along the way, and also fireworks if you're into that sort of thing. It's a place that moves at it's own pace.
Also cool, seeing Stephen King's house in Bangor. I always joke that visiting my parents is like being in a Stephen King novel, so it was cool to creep at the dude's house like a ghoul for a few minutes. I didn't even get out of the car, I wasn't in the mood to take an ass kicking from Stephen King. If he came out I was going to ask if he was Dean Koontz. In all seriousness he has a creepy cool house with a batty gate and a cool carved wooden animal statue on his lawn.
The parents have a finished attic apartment that I stayed in. Shades of Beetlejuice for sure. Nostalgia haunts that upstairs space, I first noticed the VCR, and then I noticed all of these VHS tapes on a shelf. They're of me at 3... 4... 5 years old. Christmas '88, Christmas '89, Christmas '90... my fifth birthday... all kinds of random stuff. I'm digitizing them for my mom, but also I'll cut together my best meltdowns and moments because I was a living breathing birth control advertisement... a transgressive little dickhead to say the least.
Hopefully the next time I'm up there, I'll be renting a sprinter with my band. Shout out to 1A Relics in Ellsworth, that place has something for everybody. So many cool antiques and collectables, super reasonable pricing. Also loved The Vinyl Canteen in Bangor, ME, I snagged Cheech and Chong, Steven Wright, Link Wray + Robert Gordon, and lots of other cool stuff there... until next time!
