TA-80 out of Tempe Arizon brings the party to you on their recent release "OPEN LATE"! This album opens with an energetic cheerleader chant on a track called "Cheerleader Chant/Fuses Ignite" that promises an audible party and instantly sucks you into the fun. The mis and production are steller from the thump of the bass drum to the crunch of the guitar. Everything is clear without sacrificing the power of the music. The album contains 10 tracks of punk rock mayhem, sing alongs, solos, and chants transporting me back to my childhood and places like CBGB's and VFW halls of my youth.
One of my favorite tracks is "Roller Rink Days". The song finds us reminiscing about our childhood when roller rinks were everywhere and we hung out, skating, playing arcade games, and the innocence of our youth. It makes me miss those das and, as a father of three, I am going to have to bring my kids to a roller rink again soon.
The album continues with two incredible covers. Africa, a song that everyone loves to hate and I think TA-80 hated it so much that they had to make it their own. Of course, I jest. They showed Africa the love and respect it deserved and made it their own. You have to hear it to believe it. It is a beautiful tribute to a song I have heard covered a thousand times but never like this. Well done. Their final cover happens to be one of my favorite - Alarm Clocks, originally by The Vindictives featuring Nick Spoon from lesser creatures. Their version has been added to my playlists.
I would like to point out that this albums runs the gamut from fun party songs to more serious social commentary like "All My Friends are Enemies of The State". I think you will find something here that you will like and, if you are like me, the entire album will spark feelings and emotions that only music can.
All in all, this is a solid record. It is in my top 5 releases this year. I wish TA-80 luck in the future and I hope to see them if they pass through New Jersey sometime soon. Check them out. They have a TON going on including side projects, shows, and interviews. These guys are also active on social media and always a blast to watch what they post.
