They're a North Jersey bluegrass cover band and they're tremendous.
They ended up on my radar when I was hired to edit their promo video and I was instantly a fan, so when I heard they were playing at my favorite local spot Ghost Hawk Brewery, I had to go check em out live. FGTD's singer/guitarist Chris Zacher assembled an amazing band, Debbie Davis (uke/vocals), Uncle Bob (bass/vocals), Mick (drums/vocals), and Spencer (guitanjo?/vocals) perform twangy bluegrass arranged versions of hits from the 80s, 90s, and today and it's awesome. This is how a cover band should be. Nothing about them is lazy. Frankie Goes To Dollywood is well rehearsed and they exude fun mountain energy. People were dancing all over Ghost Hawk Brewery, singing along. My favorite song they did was Careless Whisper with a kazoo instead of the saxophone. Their cover of Let's Dance was tops as well. Everything they played was so well executed.
This crew has punk cred. I met Chris and Spencer in their band punk rockabilly band The Omega Men back during my tenure in The Undead. They always rocked coordinated colors and they did a killer cover of Iron Maiden's Number of the Beast. Those dudes have always had a knack for turning a song on it's ass and doing it justice. Debbie Davis performs jazz / American Songbook and was in Mr. Green Jeans with Mick and Uncle Bob, who were also the rhythm section of Tombstone Brawlers. There's a little bit of history for you. They're a musically well rounded crew.
I'm in love with Frankie Goes To Dollywood's vibes. I haven't had this much fun watching a band in a long time. Find Frankie Goes To Dollywood on Facebook, and check out their official website for upcoming dates. Book Frankie Goes To Dollywood through Atomic Music Group.
